First Impressions: Tomb Raider (2012)

While I was out this morning, delivering newspapers (I wonder how much longer I have to do that), I got to thinking about the new Tomb Raider game that is meant to be released in 2012; a game I can't wait to play, and I wondered if there were any gameplay trailers of it on YouTube. It wasn't until just now that I remembered that I was going to look for videos of it. So, here are some of the videos I've found of the game...in terms of gameplay that is. I'm sure there are plenty of trailer videos since the game was announced.

From what I've seen of the game so far, this "new" Lara is looking to be a hell of a lot more fragile than the Lara of the previous games. She doesn't appear to be the tough chick that we've all come to know and love. Is this a bad thing? In my mind, no. I'm loving this new Lara over her previous incarnations.

This fragile, more insecure Lara actually makes me care for her a lot more than she has in the past. All the Tomb Raider games I've played in the past have been good...mostly, but this one, it's just amazing. Never before has Lara looked and sounded so scared; so terrified of her predicament. Watching the gameplay footage I've seen has made me want the game even more. It's just too bad that there is a while until the game is going to be released. In the first video, they mentioned "4/2012", which I assume means that the game is not going to be released until some time in April 2012. The exact date? Who can say? If you look at the entry for the game on Wikipedia, it states the release date as "TBA Q3 2012". It makes you wonder what they meant by "4/2012" in the gameplay footage they showed at E3.

After seeing this footage, I'm sure I am not the only person who is really looking forward to purchasing and playing Tomb Raider once it has been released in 2012.
