As I was looking back at past entries I've made here, I looked at the last entry I made about dating websites and remembered a point I really wanted to bring up about a dating website called YouCanGetMe. I signed up to it, as well as a couple of others, such as Plentyoffish and OkCupid. The problem I encountered with YouCanGetMe was regarding the free sign up. Originally when I signed up, I was expecting it to be a lot like its free rivals. To my disappointment, it wasn't.
Many pay-to-use websites that will allow you to join for free, but won't allow you to message it's members without first paying a fee, will allow you to at least read any messages you may receive from other members. This is a good way to give the member some incentive to pay the fee if they receive a message from another member that they may be interested in knowing more about. This was not the case with YouCanGetMe.
I was alerted via my G-Mail account that a member had sent me a message on the site. I headed on over to the site, signed in, went to the inbox and click on the title of the message to open it. However, instead of opening the message, it immediately took me over to the payment page. I was shocked that this site wouldn't even let me READ my messages without paying first. I closed it out, and didn't bother going back to it. After almost a month, my inbox on YouCanGetMe had accumulated messages from about 5 other members. I ended up going down the road to the store to purchase some credit for my cellphone, and pay for the site via a text. I replied to each member, apologizing for the amount of time it had taken to reply to their messages.
I think I got one reply from any of them. This is when the point came to mind. Why aren't you allowed to read your messages for free? Clearly, if these people aren't going to reply after messaging you, they are more than likely automated bots. This is why you SHOULD be allowed to read the messages. No-one really wants to pay for a site if the messages they are receiving are generated by automated bots! It is a little hurtful to the person who just paid for the site to find out they've been had.
Anyhow, if you've ever thought about signing up to a dating site that's free, DO NOT sign up for YouCanGetMe because you HAVE to pay for it to be able to do ANYTHING on it. I would recommend that you sign up to either Plenty of Fish, or OkCupid.
Have fun, and good luck on your search if you use any of these sites.
Note: I should say that this post should serve as more of a warning to people such as myself. People who really cannot afford to be paying for a website due to monetary problems. If, however, you have disposable income, then please, feel free to join YouCanGetMe.
