I logged on to Facebook just after 14:00 to see that an old friend had posted about a coach crash just outside of Looe, where I used to live. According to the first report, there was one confirmed death, nine seriously injured, and a whole bunch with minor injuries. The nine were flown to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
The report stated that the brakes on the coach had failed on a steep hill and that the bus had flipped onto its side. Which side? I have no idea currently. The image I put into my mind is that it was going at quite some speed, and when it flipped onto its side, it probably slid for a few metres before coming to a complete stop.
A second report on this crash says that there has been a second confirmed death. This one happened as soon as they arrived at the hospital. According to the second report, only eight were flown to the hospital. That confused me. Are they saying that the first report was incorrect? Are they saying that the nine is now eight because one of them died? This needs to be confirmed a little better. I'm hoping that the other eight at the hospital will survive. I don't want to read that there's been a third death.
All of the passengers on the bus were old-aged pensioners, all 60+ years of age, which is a little worrying because it could add to the deaths due to their age. The shock alone may kill more, but I hope not.
A 69-year-old in the area where the crash happened said that it'd been the first time she'd ever seen an accident happen on that road, and she's been living there since she was a teen. It's just typical, isn't it? There have been no accidents for decades; the first one it sees is a severe crash. I'm guessing that I don't know any of the people who were on that coach, but even if I don't, it doesn't make it any less depressing. If I do happen to know someone on that coach, it'll be even more depressing, especially if the ones I know are the two deceased.
Please, don't let there be any more deaths from this crash.
I'll update you later if anything else happens.
