Are movie producers really being serious when thinking up these movies? I was on IMDB today checking out the release date of a movie I saw for rent at a store down the road. The movie? Tekken. I wasn't aware that they even made a movie about that fighting game. It was released in 2010 apparently. It's not a movie I'm going to take a look at though.
Other fighting games that got a movie were Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Plenty of people thought those movies were total shit, so I don't have much hope for Tekken. I've never seen the Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat movies, and I never intend to.
Anyway, while I was on IMDB, I saw a list of movies based on video games. Some gamers already know about as they've been released, but there are a bunch of upcoming ones listed. Will any of them be good? Who knows. Here's the list, and my thoughts on a few of them.
TRON: Legacy (2010).
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010). This isn't that bad of a movie really. I'll admit, it was worth watching. However, there is one thing that really bugged me; the fact that they called the Prince "Dustan". Why give him a name when in the games he is just called "The Prince".
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003).
Hitman (2007).
Max Payne (2008).
Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010). A friend of mine already knows how I feel about this series. I hate it. They messed up everything with it really. I never really watched any of the movies after Nemesis. How they could turn something as badass as Nemesis into a cry baby is shocking. In the games, he's an unstoppable killing machine. In the movie...he fucking cried! Are you kidding me?
Kane & Lynch (2013).
Tekken (2010).
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale (2007).
Silent Hill (2006).
Doom (2005).
Far Cry (2008).
Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God (2005).
DOA: Dead or Alive (2006).
Alone in the Dark II (2008).
House of the Dead 2 (2005).
Assassin's Creed: Lineage (2009).
Bloodrayne: The Third Reich (2010).
Red Faction: Origins (2011).
Castlevania (2011). Question with this one is, which one of the Belmonts is it going to be based on? Simon?
Army of Two (2011).
Duke Nukem (????). It amuses me that the release date for this movie is unknown. Is it going to take 12+ years to be released, just like Duke Nukem: Forever?
Infamous (2011).
Clock Tower (2012).
Metal Gear Solid (2012).
Halo (????).
Gears of War (????).
Mass Effect (2012).
Just Cause (2012).
Dark Void (2014). Never even heard of this game
Driver (2012).
Splinter Cell (2013).
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (2013).
Warcraft (2013).
Bioshock (2013).
Dead Space (2013).
Lost Planet (2013).
Missile Command (2013). Can you seriously make a movie out of this extremely old game? It's going to look completely retarded. The next movie in the list isn't much better!
Asteroids (2014).
Heavy Rain (2014).
Now, the question is, how many of these movies are actually going to be worth seeing? Hopefully Metal Gear Solid will be a good one. Splinter Cell will hopefully be a good one as well. We'll just have to wait and see.
Let me know in the comments (especially gamers) which of these movies you'll be checking out, or which ones you think will actually be good.
