I'm so surprised that I got a reply from Kelly of The Dollyrots to a question I asked yesterday. Well, I'm sure I could've really looked for the information on Wikipedia like she did, but it was so cool to be able to actually talk with someone from a great band. I e-mailed her again asking more things that I was curious about. I'd just love to be able to make friends with her and her band. Shar and I are wanting to start a band, and it would be perfect if I could make friends from other bands so we can get a kinda head-start like thing. Anyway, here are the messages so far. Anyway, I just have really simple question that I would really love to know the answer to. Loving all your songs by the way. However, Brand New Key...I've noticed the tune in the chorus is very similar to a song by The Wurzels called Combine Havester. Is this a pure coinsidence, or do you happen to like The Wurzels? Or is it a kinda test to see how many people would notice a slight similarity? Haha.

Ha that's cool! Brand New Key is actually cover... the original is by Melanie Safka, she's a cool old hippie. The song was one of my favorite discoveries in my adolescence. Maybe The Wurzels like her too?

In 1976, the Wurzels released "The Combine Harvester", a re-work of the song "Brand New Key", by Melanie, which became a UK hit, topping the charts for 2 weeks.
